Are you using any optimization at all ?
With -O2 I see just a bx lr for Thumb2, Thumb1 and ARM.
a:
@ args = 0, pretend = 0, frame = 0
@ frame_needed = 0, uses_anonymous_args = 0
@ link register save eliminated.
