Thanks, this was indeed my typo (actually, it was a missed OCR error). It is
difficult to see the difference between '1' and 'l' in the font used on my
machine and despite my looking for this type of error, I missed it. I was
misled because the full program produced correct results (or appeared to be
correct) when compiled with the Intel ifort compiler.
