This works OK on gfortran 4.3.
and on my FC6 install:
$ gfortran -v
Using built-in specs.

gcc version 4.1.1 20070105 (Red Hat 4.1.1-51)
$ gfortran -c hang.f90
Maybe a problem on i686? installation problem?
