Currently, the class preparation code is a mess.
There are methods which do nearly the same thing
for both the interpreter and for compiled code.
In some situations (see Class.initializeClass) there
is code which short-circuits the normal chain of
events to ensure that vtables are made "early enough".
This should all be cleaned up and unified.
