GCC 2.96 was never released by the GCC project, so this is not the place to report bugs in it. If you're using the Red Hat-released GCC 2.96, make sure you've got the latest updates. In any case, I suggest bootstrapping a native GCC 3.0 and usign that to build your cross compiler and library.
