I've made build attempts for gcc-20010305 and gcc-20010205 releases on
several UNIX flavors
Apple Macintosh PPC G3 Rhapsody 5.6
Compaq/DEC Alpha OSF/1 4.0F
IBM PowerPC AIX 4.2
Intel Pentium III GNU/Linux 2.2.17-14smp (Red Hat 6.2)
SGI Origin 200 IRIX 6.5
Sun SPARC GNU/Linux 2.2.17-14 (Red Hat 6.2)
Sun SPARC Solaris 2.7
Power Macintosh 233MHz GNU/Linux 2.2.15pre9
using the standard recommended procedure of building in a directory
parallel to the source directory with
../gcc-YYYYMMDD/configure && make bootstrap install
The builds of two versions have succeeded only on these architectures:
Intel Pentium III GNU/Linux 2.2.17-14smp (Red Hat 6.2)
SGI Origin 200 IRIX 6.5
Sun SPARC GNU/Linux 2.2.17-14 (Red Hat 6.2)
Even though the latest gcc now reports its version as 3.0 instead of
the 2.97 of last month, it is surprising to see failures on the
widely-used Compaq/DEC, IBM, and Sun platforms.
I have access to two others
HP 9000/712 HP-UX 10.20
Intel Pentium II FreeBSD 4.1.1
but disk space is tight on them, and I'm reluctant to try builds there
until the success rate is higher.
I assume that the gcc development team has access to all of these
systems, and sees the same failures as I do.
If not, please let me know, and I'll provide details. I have saved
the complete build logs.
I'll continue my build attempts as new gcc snapshots are released, but
won't report failures further unless I hear from one or more of you
that such reports are desired.
