OSX Server/OSX

I'm a great fan of gnu software (of course) and have used it on Digital Unix,
Linux, etc. But there was limited support for NeXTstep and now, with
OSX Server, it is very difficult to configure/make lots of gnu programs.

I can compile gcal and even the latest guntar but apparently there
is no support for gcc installation (with g77, my greatest need) even
though the OS X (Mac) cc is based on gcc.

I'd really like to be able to configure and install the latest gcc distribution
and other gnu software on OSXS as easily as I can on other varients
of Unix or Unix-like systems.

Unfortunately, I don't have the skills to tackle hacking a compiler installation
to get this to work, though I began to try.

Just some feedback and words of encouragement
