x86 generated code

I have noticed that some of our time critical code appears to have
degenerated with the egcs compiler as compared to an old gcc. Before I go as
far as submitting a bug could anyone tell me the best compiler options to
set for maximum performance on x86 - under cygwin? Once I have tried that I
can objectively comment on the resulting code.
