This has to be --infodir=/usr/share/info --mandir=/usr/share/man, of
course ...
a dirty patch is adding the line
$other_options = "$other_options $orig_option"
to the top-level configure script ('added for emacs' -- no, this feature
is to let people specify where they want to place their files)
