Earlier this week Robert Lipe installed a patch that fixed that issue. :-)

If you want to have a look how exactly he solved it, you might want to
look for:

  Tue Mar  2 09:37:05 1999  Robert Lipe  <robertlipe@usa.net>

        * Makefile.in (MAKEINFO): Use makeinfo built from sibling
        tree when available.
