As far as I have been able to follow things, this seems to proceed
well; in fact, AFAICT, the best thing to do for us - g77-{dev,alpha}
- is to have g77-0.5.22 *be* the g77 part of [whatever is released
as egcs-1.00].
But, as always, I'm open to differing opinion.
