I agree, but the g++ people apparently don't. This is a known issue

Wait a minute, however: this issue (c++/7100) is not -open-, is
-closed-, as invalid, basically! Therefore, I guess we should simply
live with it.

Reopening the issue and fixing the compiler would be much better for the C++ world at large, IMO. :-)
