How to install an ancient libstdc++ ?

- Subject: How to install an ancient libstdc++ ?
I have this crufty LISP/C++ hybrid application that was compiled by
whatever came with Red Hat Linux 5. When I run it on my debian box, it
complains:
Warning: Loading sys:libngtr-planar.so failed with error:
libstdc++.so.2.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file
or directory.
Warning: Loading sys:ik.so failed with error:
libstdc++.so.2.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file
or directory.
The program dies a violent death shortly thereafter. There is no
libstdc++.so.2.8 on any of my machines. Re-compiling this application
from source is not possible.
What should I do? Should I download some ancient gcc version, and
compile it from source? If so, which gcc versions correspond to which
libstdc++ versions?
Thank you.
