Never mind! I found the thread about <fstream>
on the bugs@ list. Seems this is merely a problem
with how releases coexist after 3.0, and is listed
under #6672.
So I just did some house cleaning on /usr/local, removing
old releases, et voila! Things are peachy again. Sorry
to bother you. ;-)
By the way, the 3.1 release compiled/installed on
mips-sgi-irix6.5
and
sparc-sun-solaris2.6
just fine, with only minor touches to the Makefile.
