some additional details.
It looks like the relevant document is ISO 4217:2001. See also:

I'm not sure, however, about how this relates to the xx_XX and 
xx_XX@euro named locales. To wit:

1- whether the xx_XX localedata of a country belonging to the EU, 
effective February, 28th has switched to EUR as currency symbol;

2- which is the difference between it and the corresponding xx_XX@euro 
named locale;

3- finally, whether the remaining monetary format is unchanged or not 
irrespective of the EURO switch.

Any help?
