The interactions between the C++ standard, the C++ implementations,
and the dl* routines have produced some fascinating Usenet articles.
The last semi-official observation I heard was that 14882 and [whatever
standard covers dl*] nearly require conflicting behavior.

To paraphrase Tom Duff:  libtool's "libltdl" forms some kind of argument
in this debate, but I'm not sure whether it's for or against.
