Yes -- I was short on the details.

In C++, the standard says that there are two versions of some
functions.  Like ones that take a `char *' -- C++ sometimes has an
extra version with the same name that takes a `const char *' as well.

Definitely.  I'm thinking for the sometime-distant future.
