I'll check this patch in shortly if nobody objects. But I finally figured
out what's been bugging me about the existence of GLIBCPP_CHECK_OS all
this time...
...we're already doing something similar for the host in configure.host.
Why not do the same for the target, presumably in configure.target? That way
we don't have to keep changing acinclude.m4 and regenerating all the time.
Take a look at the (almost unused) configure.host and let me know what
you think. If this sounds sane, if I haven't overlooked a good reason
to /not/ do this, then I'll create an initial version after the wwwdocs
stuff is finished, and we can move the guts of GLIBCPP_CHECK_OS over.
No, I did not specifically wait until Benjamin went on holiday before
suggesting a major change to the configuration structure. It just happened
that way. Honest!
