stringstream status

I've been looking both at CHECKLIST and the list archives of last December.
There was code posted for some kind of <sstream> implementation, but it's
either been replaced in the CVS sources, or has never made it in (the CVS
logs show a bunch of "tweaks" over the history of bits/std_sstream.h, but
I never found a "we replaced everything on this date" note).
What's the current status? I'm asking because ostringstreams are functional
with the exception of storage growth, i.e., you must supply an initial
string, nor will it grow, but the basic sprintf()-like behavior is there
and working. The CHECKLIST still notes nearly all stringstream functions
as stubs.
I have ideas for a possible solution, but I don't want to spend any more
time on them if somebody else is already working on them, or if the code
from last December is still waiting on legal matters (which was the last
message to the list).

(If you reply to the list, please don't cc another copy to me. Thanks.)
P.S.- I solved the "vector breaks iostream" problem; it wasn't finding old
includes or anything since I only keep one copy. I just removed everything,
threw away all changes, and reinstalled everything from scratch. A bit
extreme, but I was tired of "hello world" not working... :-)
