I checked the description of the VC toolkit and I don't believe
it is sufficient.  According to Quadmore web page the freely
downloaded C/C++ compilers do not provide key headers.
The free toolkit's description does not mention the header
file sets noted as necessary by Quadmore.

Thanks, though. 

I'll just buy the $60 package to move forward, get the job
done, etc.

BTW, I tried both gcj and jikes and both complained about
the mix of packaged and unpackaged classes.  I even
tried jikes with --source 1.3 setting to see if that would
work around the problem but it doesn't.
