I don't think you mentioned that. There is a bunch of problems to do
with libgcj and --disable-shared that are basically insurmountable.
However, I see no reason why this might have caused your problem.
I'm going to test with the default libgcj configuration and see if the
problem can be replicated there.

Andrew.
you are right, i somehow forgot to mention this, to prevent any further problems:
$/gcj -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/mygcj/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4/specs
Reading specs from /usr/local/mygcj/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4/../../../libgcj.spec
rename spec lib to liborig
Konfiguriert mit: '../gcc_cvs/gcc/configure' '--enable-languages=c,c++,java,objc '--prefix=/usr/local/mygcj '--disable-shared '--without-included-gettext '--enable-__cxa_atexit '--enable-clocale=gnu '--enable-debug '--enable-java-gc=boehm '--disable-java-awt '--disable-libgcj-debug '--enable-libgcj
Thread model: posix
