If I understand RMS correctly the problem is not a GPL vs non-GPL issue,
but the fact the GPL+exception is even weaker then the LGPL.

GNU Classpath has always contained a LGPL implementation of the AWT.
Which was not relicensed to the GPL+Exception when we merged with the
libgcj project. A solution would be to relicense the libgcj awt stuff
under the LGPL and merge it with the Classpath version. That way we would
at least have AWT support in libgcj.

It would be nice to have everything under the same license. But I personally
like the LGPL better then the GPL+exception license and would not mind
having a LGPLed awt implementation.

I also have to admit that I have no time to do any actual work on it
at the moment. But as long as we don't have a clear standpoint on how to
solve these issues I am also not very likely to make any time in the near
future.

Cheers,

Mark
