Yes there is. Look at the man page for javac (1.2)

They have multiple options to configure which sources and classes to use
during compilation.
-classpath to set the user classpath (but not the standard classes)
-bootclasspath to set the standard library classes
-extdirs to specify a different directory for finding the standard
exttension classes
-sourcepath to specify where to find the java source files to compile
There is even an -Xverbosepath option that shows how the classes/sources
where searched for.
It might be a good idea to make a wrapper for gcj which takes the same
arguments as the javac tool.
