That should be "--enable-java-gc=boehm".  But it probably didn't make a
difference... boehm is used by default in libgcj, so you don't even have
to mention it on the "configure" line.

What were the error messages?  You mean complaining about libgcj.spec? 
Make sure the file /usr/opt/gcc-2.95.2/lib/libgcj.spec exists.  If not,
libgcj may not have built properly.

One thing the FAQ may or may not mention is that gcj must be in your
PATH before you attempt to build libgcj (I sometimes forget this
myself).

The help messages ought to be fixed.  Perhaps we should file a bug in
gnats?

For now, posix threads and boehm gc are the only viable options.  You
can disable them, but that only results in a crippled libgcj, since Java
requires threads and GC.
