and this message contains a brief explanation of what it is supposed to
do.  The explanation looks like a useful optimization, but perhaps it is
triggering in cases when it shouldn't.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. From the comments, he didn'tintend to do what I saw. Probably, the problem is in my port and thevery special way that we handle instruction costs.

If I see a problem that isn't specific to my port, I will report back.
