Yes, I think it would be considered real.
The sort of languages for which I wouldn't want front ends integrated in
GCC include those listed at
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esoteric_programming_language>, for example
(out-of-tree front ends are fine, but they wouldn't be appropriate to
integrate into FSF GCC trunk).
