FWIW, RTH's patch in:
http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2005-06/msg01487.html
allows me to complete bootstrap (c,c++,java) as well as
run the libjava testsuite successfully. (Except for the
"Divide_1" testcase that has started failing recently
due to another as-yet-unknown-but-introduced-this-week
back-end bug:

similar.
