If someone had cared about them, it would have been noticed earlier. But since _nobody_ has complained before you, I guess we can conclude that by far the majority if GCC users are quite happy with the cost assesments that were made.

That is simply not true. I don't feel happy about the whole gcj thing.
Already libstdc++ provided alongside with the compiler is pain enough.
But the runtime support for Java is a disaster in the making since it's
getting to be a truly huge behemoth which is constantly changing and "eating"
new APIs. Worst thing about it is it's grief for external libraries like GTK+ for
example.
