GLIBC 2.3.3 build failure on i686-pc-linux-gnu

Today I built GLIBC 2.3.3 with GLIBC 2.3. The linker seems to have balked on iconv:

I tried compiling the same part with the other version of GCC that's on my system, but it gave me the same error.
