Can you list the patches you applied to glibc?  e.g.
did you apply

Can you see if it's really building bash with gcc-3.4.x that's
the problem?  i.e. build glibc with gcc-3.4.x but bash with gcc-3.3.3,
or vice versa, and see which combinations crash.
