- Organization: SUSE Labs
Hi,
What is the status of the arc port?
The last time someone expressed interest in this target was in April
last year[1], but arc support has already been removed from gdb[2], the
port was called "unmaintainable"[3] by its former maintainer, and it is
supposedly uncompilable "since at least GCC 3.0"[4].
There is no listed maintainer currently, but apparently Rich D'Addio
offered to take that job (though I couldn't actually find a mail
saying so), which is why arc wasn't on Nathaneal Nerode's "Proposed
targets to obsolete for 3.4" list[5]. Only Kazu did _some_ work on
it recently, so he probably knows if it still compiles. Otherwise,
this part is unmaintained.
All files in the config/arc/ directory also have the telling comment:
"This is an old port, and is undoubtedly suffering from bit rot."
(thanks drow ;-)
So what should we do with this target? Any objections against removing
it for GCC 3.5, or deprecate it for 3.5 and remove it later? Or is
someone interested in updating and maintaining the port?
Gr.
Steven
