I looked for a GPL-legal mailing list, but could not find one. If this is

You can certainly read the GPL FAQ, and you may find it helpful, but
don't expect to find free legal advice on the net! You may get
miscellaneous amateur legal opinions, but I would not rely on
them. If you have a legal question of this kind you really need
to have an attorney look into exactly what you propose to do.
You are also in a stronger position if the software that you
are using is supplied under some kind of commercial contract
then you can ask your supplier about the license.
