Look at the config.log file. configure logs the commands, input files, and output of failing tests into this file. So there should be info here that explains what went wrong.

The configure output says the output file with no -o option is a.exe. Is this true? Your example did not demonstrate this. -- Jim Wilson, GNU Tools Support, http://www.SpecifixInc.com

I sent the config.log by a second post - forgot to include it in the first. I couldn't figure out what was causing the problem.

But, I got the 20040221 src rpm from redhat. Built that. It worked with the configure / make tools.

So, whatever the problem, it's solved.
