We have decided to convert all our systems to Linux platform. I will be thankful to you if you please clear my doubt about GCC. My doubt is whether GCC is to be purchased separate or the compiller along with the Linux package is enough.

No, you are not required to purchase gcc, you can download it from our website. However, you are free to buy it, if you wish. Should you? Depends upon what your needs are. Only you can know this. If you can loose $20,000/day for each day a bug remains unfixed in gcc, then you will probably want to buy support for gcc. If you are happy to work around any bugs that might be present, and don't face any financial exposure, you won't need to buy support.

If in doubt, start off with the free package, and see if that is good enough.

If you want me to guess at the right answer for your situation, I can try. 1,000+ developers, yes, buy support. < 20, no don't buy support. In between, toss a coin. :-)

Hope this helps some.
