The list you provide includes many branches we have already closed, but...

...in principle I agree with you here, though I wouldn't document
all those "dead" branches, only those that are really maintained/used
actively.
(For that, I believe cvs.html is sufficient, though a new section there
just for branches might make sense. If it grows too large, we can always
move it to a separate page of its own later. Deal?)
Any patches that update cvs.html with information on those missing active
branches are pre-approved.
