RE: G++ 3.2, Sol 7/sparc, dynamic linking problem?

GCC 3.2 on Solaris 7 take #2...

1. Build binutils 2.12.1 instead of 2.13.
2. Configured GCC with --with-gnu-as --with-as=/usr/gnu/bin/as (+ ld)
3. Dropped the --enable-__cxa_atexit, since Sun libc doesnt have this.

Compiler bootstrap builds 'OK' (completes without errors).

Suspicious warnings during java stage, compiling .java classes with
gcj produce assembler warnings:
.stabs: descriptor field '<7dighex>' to big, try a different debug format

Compiling and testing the traditional "Hello World" (c, c++). Both work.
The c++ version (cout<<) does not link to libstdc++ (not a problem).

No complaints about not finding libgcc_s (/usr/gnu/lib/sparcv9/). Don't
know whether it is used though; the gcc specs file does not mention this
path (does not mention "/usr/gnu" at all).

Big problem so far: 'strip' now breaks the binaries! For example:

  test$ strip aa-0
BFD: stEQaWDT: warning: allocated section `.interp' not in segment

  test$ ./aa-0
  aa-0: Cannot find ELF
  Killed
                    ^
                    ^-- note the non-printable character?!

(where aa-0 is a copy of the "hello world", same for C or C++).

Has anybody built GCC 3.2 on Solaris 7? (or 8/9?)

Si.

Sun libc does not contain __cxa_atexit.

Now trying with 2.12.1...
