Ironically, I'll bet a large percentage of that group already has
GCC on their systems, but configure prefers "cc" over "gcc" (for
good reasons I suppose), so it'll find the pre-ISO compiler even if
a working GCC is available...
In any case, it sounds like if a single person were to volunteer to
make a 3.1 binary available for HPs, this group would be able to use
that binary rather than try to build their own. And if they
wanted to build 3.1.1, 3.2, etc binaries later, they could start
bootstrapping from the 3.1 binary, right?
