This may be surprising to some of you, but I also agree. Having gcc
-shared just work would make libtool's life immensely easy.
Well, there are also library versioning issues, run-time search paths
and this kind of stuff that libtool takes care of that gcc just defers
to the user, so libtool actually goes against GCC policy in this
regard. Not that I agree with GCC policy, but consistency comes
before personal preference.
