Let me advise you not to do it...
Although you won't have any problems except maybe with kernel
compilation AFAIK, if you don't have problems with 2.96 stay with
it. It won't hurt. I've compiled and installed 3.0.2 and later I
came back to 2.95.3 for alot of reasons...
