If you're interested in gcc-2.96, gcc.gnu.org is not the place to look
for it. GCC 2.96 was the version stamp of a number of development
snapshots issued by the maintainers of GCC for the Free Software
Foundation. One of this snapshots turned out to be stabilized by Red
Hat and the result was used as the primary compiler for the whole
series of Red Hat Linux 7.x. If you're looking for known bugs in this
compiler, look for them at bugzilla.redhat.com.
