I'd have thought PR review, bug-fixing and documentation work on the
mainline so that the tree is in good shape for branching and releasing (at
least, that's what I'd suggest).
It would be good if every PR could be looked at by at least one person
with expertise in the relevant areas of the compiler with a view to
attempting a fix rather than just to identify and fix regressions (and in
fact failing to review some PRs at all, as happened in the 3.0 PR review)
- and this needs experienced people to be working on bug-fixing in
preference to new development.
