Looking at the egcs timeline, historically there's been 9 months between
egcs releases 1.0->1.1->2.95, then a huge gap of 2 years til 3.0.
If you miss the 2 month window, then the longest you wait til a release is
out is an additional 6 months. This is better than has historically
been acheived.
You're talking about the time from when major development was done to the
time it appears in a release. I'm talking about the time from when it was
done to when it appears in *development sources*.
