Why strcpy and not strtod [2]?

Sorry, I forgot to mention my g++ version:

MLO@mlinux 127 $ g++ -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/gcc/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.0/specs
Configured with: ../gcc-3.0-20010527/configure --prefix=/usr/local/gcc
--enable-libstdcxx-v3
Thread model: single
gcc version 3.0 20010526 (prerelease)

and, yes, I noticed in the included text of the previous message the two
lines saying "at /usr/include/stdlib.h:245" and
"/usr/local/gcc/include/g++-v3/bits/std_cstring.h:104" --- but couldn't
understand why :-(

The instructions said to use Windows 98 or better - so I installed FreeBSD.
