One of the fallacies of free software (in my opinion) is that you can
get great software without management. Mozilla, the Linux kernel, and
GCC have all had people in relatively traditional technical management
roles for years. Those people are largely volunteers -- but they also
assign tasks, prioritize problems, and so forth.
