There is a big difference between breaking some innouous user program which
has not even been reported as a problem, and breaking the builds!
Certainly: in the latter case it's *far* more likely to actually get fixed!
The latent bug in this case was particularly nasty since it would come and
go completely at random. This was a very important bug to have squashed
and were it not for the buiild breakage, it would not have been fixed.
