Well, there's a compromise here. Some people are arguing it shouldn't
be the default *ever* (even when building -shared, say) because then
you have to muck with LD_LIBRARY_PATH. Others are saying that it
should always be the default.
Distributors and users will have to decide what works for them.
I think it would be wise if the GCC team would at least make an
official recommendation about where to install the shared libgcc and
when to use it on systems where GCC is used as the system compiler.
Especially on systems where there is more than one distributor, such
as Linux. This avoids that various distributors choose a different
solution which would introduce gratitious incompatibilities between
those distributions which will annoy quite a few Linux users.
