Still in the domain of the implementors, though, right?  We can do whatever
we need this far behind the scenes.

Works for me... but the performance of the I/O sublibrary is still hurting.
But performance's a GCC 3.1 issue.

Why?  If you're thinking about typeof, there has been some good reception
to the idea on comp.std.c++ before.
