Compiling Linux 0.12 with current gcc

Hi,
I would like to compile the Linux 0.12, because I wanna develop a new
kernel ("Svenux") which bases on it.
Linux 0.12 compiles natively under gcc 2.40, but I haven't found it
yet and also I wouldn't how to make it working. I think it is the
easiest (and probably the best) way to port Linux 0.12 to a current
version of gcc (the version isn't very necessary, because I've got
some different Linux installations with different gcc versions).
What do you thing about that? Is there a better way to get Linux 0.12
compiled? If I port Linux 0.12 can I hope for assistance in this list?
Sven
