Here are a couple of suggestions for the GCC 3.0 release criteria:
* The file gcc/NEWS is very out of date (not updated for 2.95 even).
Either it should be updated, or it should be made to point to the online
release notes. Similarly, the role of the other NEWS files in the
distribution versus the online release notes needs to be worked out.
* I'd like to see TeX considered for being one of the real-world
applications that must be compiled correctly by GCC 3.0. The rationale
for this is that more than once releases have miscompiled TeX on some
platforms (e.g. egcs 1.1 on some architectures; the 2.95.2 release notes
mention a bug relating to miscompilation of TeX on the Sparc). TeX's
machine-generated C code seems good at exercising compiler bugs.
