Since I did not see Franz reply to this, please let me add my two cents
(representing a reasonable user-base size of PPC Linux users) and request
strongly that PowerPC Linux be added to the list of supported platforms
for GCC 3.0.
- PowerPC linux relies completely on the gcc compilers \
(and have since the beginning)
- There is a reasonbly large user base that relies on it
- No other compiler exists for this platform.
- There has been support for PowerPC Linux in all of the egcs and gcc
releases to date
- Franz Sirl has been actively supporting that platform for the gcc project
(with the help of Geoff and Richard and David)
- PPC is officially supported in the linux kernel, glibc 2.1.X, the
binutils, gdb (just now), the blackdown jdk, etc.
I am certainly no compiler expert but I will be willing to offer my
services to Franz or whomever to help see to it that all needed builds and
testing are being done. I am sure SuSE, Mandrake, YellowDog Linux,
MkLinux, Caldera and others with PPC Linux distributions (either existing,
in beta or in development) would/could provide some help if need be.
Thank you.
Kevin
